"Roopantar - The Change"
"Roopantar - The Change" - the 1st exhibition at Parichay
Roopantar was launched successfully on the 19th July 2009 at the United Club, Jamshedpur.
The exhibition was a collaborative effort of Parichay and Pragati (CSS - Tata Steel). The two organizations partnered to showcase the brilliant work of rural/tribal artisans from Jharkhand. The whole exibition was an outcome of just 1 month workshop at Parichay Design and Learning Center. Parichay had invited designers from NIFT in association with AIACA. The effort was to demonstrate the enormous potential amongst our rural/tribal artisans and the young designers. The idea was also to explore synergy between the two like minded organizations Parichay and Tata Steel. The outcome was brilliant and was well appreciated by one and all. The event was extremely well covered by all forms of press right from DD News to local channels.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Mrs. Nerurkar (wife of Mr. Nerurkar - Executive Director, Tata Steel).
The exhibition also attracted various emminent personalities including Mr. Satish Pillai (Chief - CSS, Tata Steel), Mr. Rana Sinha (MD, Telcon) and Mr. Radha Nair (CHRO, Tata Steel) and many more..
Roopantar showcased 4 crafts:
- Bamboo craft
- Stone carving
- Pytkar paintings
- Grass mat weaving
The Pytkar painting and stone carving artisans came from Pragati. Artisans for bamboo craft and grass mat weaving were from Parichay. All the artisans working in great coordination at the Parichay Design and Learning Center to creat some of the preliminary forms of fusion craft Parichay intends to create. It has been a great start and we are sure we will go much further in our efforts.
We are thankful to one and all for making Roopantar a great success.
We specially thank Mr. Satish Pillai for making this event a reality. The event could never have been so successful without his support and guidance.
To give you a snap shot of the entire exhibition, take a look at the collage created by Prof. Madhukar Shukla. We thank him for the brilliant effort.
